Not only does the Raveneau family own many of the finest sites in the appellation, but their wines have a steely magnificence that captures the essence of Chablis’ distinctive terroir. The greatness of Raveneau’s Chablis has even led some to suggest they deserve an appellation of their own.
Raveneau wines are famous for their longevity. In fact, many believe that a top Raveneau Chablis doesn’t hit its stride until it’s at least 8 to 10 years old. At this time, the wines not only acquire even greater richness, but layer upon layer of previously hidden flavors are revealed.
Along with René and Vincent Dauvissat, Raveneau pioneered the use of Côte d’Or winemaking in Chablis, including barrel fermentation and extended lees contact.

Ripe and appealingly fresh aromas are comprised by notes of citrus, white peach, shellfish and a whisper of iodine along with a deft application of wood. There is once again very solid volume to the more finely textured flavors that possess very good verve before concluding in a refreshing bitter lemon-inflected finish. This promising and relatively powerful effort should reward up to a decade of cellaring. *Outstanding*

The 2018 Chablis Forêt 1er Cru is bright and finely sculpted, with plenty of crushed rock, white flower and citrus character. Translucent and vibrant, the 2018 sizzles with tension from the very first taste. The house style dominates over the vintage, but that is not a bad thing at all, just an observation.

Pale colour with green tints, very fresh, there is even a little bit of noble reduction. The 2018 Forêts delivers an absolutely scintillating, crystalline purity. There is impressive weight on the palate, balanced by a refreshing greener element to the fruit.
