2015 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée ‘Les Chaumes’ 1er Cru

$829.00

Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. The vineyard land in Burgundy is highly parceled out among families, which makes it rare for anyone to have enough vines to be able to bottle one grand cru, let alone the six that the Méos have.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet bottles six astounding grands crus (Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, Échezeaux, Corton Clos Rognet, Corton Les Perrières, and Corton La Vigne au Saint), ten premier crus (from the communes of Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-St-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, and Fixin), several village wines, one Bourgogne Rouge, and only three whites. Jean-Nicolas aims for balance and purity of fruit, which he accomplishes with terrific success. Though delicate and fine, even in their youth, the paradoxical concentration and intensity of these wines make them ideal for long cellar aging. These rare, stunning achievements are a Burgundy lover’s dream.

Description

90-93 Points Allen Meadows
A discreet and ultra-fresh nose combines notes of various dark berries, violet, lavender, spice and sandalwood nuances. Once again there is a suave mouth feel to the rich, generous and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that possess notably better depth on the lingering finale. This has the potential to be outstanding, indeed more so than I am used to seeing from this consistently good but rarely great terroir. Note that this should drink reasonably well early on if desired.

93 Points Decanter
Very spicy nose, either from the soil or the oak, but in either case it’s vibrant and lifted. Rich and broad with a svelte texture, and power and depth of fruit. Firm tannins and excellent balance and persistence. Classy. Drinking Window 2019 – 2032.

94 Points Wine Spectator
An enticing mix of black cherry, blackberry, sweet spices and toasty oak, backed by a solid structure. All the components are in the right proportions and the finish is lively and long. Best from 2022 through 2038.
