Ghislaine Barthod’s domaine originated in the 1920s with Marcel Noëllat, whose daughter married Gaston Barthod – a soldier stationed in Dijon who came to buy some wine and got the girl as well. He gave up military life for the vineyards in ’60.

His daughter, Ghislaine, and her partner, Louis Boillot, bought their current premises overlooking Premier Cru Les Feusselottes in ’86. Though they share the team who work the vineyards, the vinification and commercial aspects of their businesses are kept separate.

The domaine has an incomparable range of Chambolle-Musigny terroirs, with 11 separate Premier Cru bottlings and highly regarded Bourgogne and village wines.

Tasting Notes

93-95 Points Allen Meadows
A dramatic, densely fruited and polished nose speaks of spiced purple fruit and floral aromas, particularly violets. The strikingly well-detailed, intense and mineral-driven flavors are supported by seemingly buckets of dry extract as well as refined and sophisticated tannins that contribute to this wine’s perfect sense of harmony on the explosive finish. Wow, this is a seriously impressive effort that should also age extremely well though note that significant patience will be required.

92-94 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Nothing really stands out in the 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras. The wine is simply beautiful from start to finish. There is more than enough depth and density to stand up to the firm tannins that are typical of this site. Dark red cherries, spices, menthol and new oak fill out the virtually seamless finish. Once again, the wine’s balance and overall sense of proportion are both first-rate. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.
