Dugat-Py is a high-class Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine that has risen to prominence in the last 10 years. It was run for many years by Pierre Dugat and, astonishingly, only began estate bottling in 1989. It is now run by Pierre’s son Bernard, who is recognised as one of the shrewdest winemakers on the Côte.
The Domaine consists of 5 hectares of vineyards and includes holdings in several Premiers Crus sites and 3 Grands Crus.
The key to the success is in the vineyard with exceptionally meticulous control of the work, there being five people working full time on 10 hectares.
The vines are for the most part extremely old, averaging 65 years old across the domaine. Replanting is done with selections from their own vine stock, never with clones.
The domaine has been fully organic since 2003. The wines are vinified with as little intervention as possible and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The wines are very approachable in youth but show at their best with 5-8 years of bottle ageing.

Tasting Notes

94 Points Allen Meadows
An elegant, pure and attractively ripe nose speaks of black berry liqueur and dried floral notes with a background hint of the sauvage. There is a terrific inner mouth perfume to the notably spicy and mineral-driven flavors that possess an explosion of sap that renders the firm tannins almost invisible on the austere, balanced and equally explosive finish that is clearly constructed for the long haul. This offers excellent grip on the palate saturating finale and I very much like the underlying sense of tension.

94 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is flat-out gorgeous. The fruit tends towards the darker end of the spectrum, with shades of red cherries and berries. Deep floral and spiced notes develop in the glass, adding lift and brightness through to the energetic finish. This is totally refined, delicate and pure. I loved it for the purity and definition of the fruit. The 1er Cru is equal parts Fonteny, Les Corbeaux and Les Perrieres, vinified with 75% stems. The wine was aged in 100% new barrels, all of which it handles with uncommon grace. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.
