2003 Géantet-Pansiot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
$400.00
The Geantet-Pansiot estate was founded in 1954 when Edmond Geantet married Bernadette Pansiot and the newlyweds started to make wine on 7 acres of vineyard spread on both Gevrey-Chambertin and Bourgogne designations.
In 1977, their son Vincent joined them in the family business and has been in charge since 1989. A third generation is in the wings as Vincent’s son, Fabien, has been working with his dad since the age of twelve, officially joining him in 2006.
While both father and son share a deep sense of commitment to their land and a passion for its fruit, Vincent also passed down to his son a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and volunteer firefighting. In fact, it is fairly common to see either of them coming straight from the winery to answer the call of duty, zipping around the narrow streets of Gevrey-Chambertin on vintage sporsters.
The domaine has steadily grown over the years, with the acquisition of 10 additional acres in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1991, and a few more plots since then in Chambolle-Musigny and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru. Also, with each passing generation, the Geantet-Pansiot family has been careful to update its facilities with regular renovations of their winery. Gregarious by nature, Vincent and Fabien favor collaboration over competition with their fellow winemakers. For instance, Vincent was one of the first to join the local Center for Agricultural Technical Studies, and advocates a constant exchange of knowledge and resources with neighboring colleagues. Today, Vincent and Fabien practice lutte raisonée, using no herbicides or chemical fertilizers over their 32 acres of vineyards.
This colorful family makes wines very much in its image, generous and strong, gifted with the unmistakable nobility and power of true Gevrey-Chambertin wines.
