Penfold’s special bin wines have a special significance and place among generations of Australian and international wine collectors. Deeply connected to Australian wine culture, each release or bottling has in some way represented a waypoint in the progress of the modern Australian wine industry.

The 1990 Bin 90a and 1990 Bin 920 are John Duval’s reprise of Max Schubert’s famous experimental opus.

Tasting Notes

18/20 Jancis Robinson
Fruit from Coonawarra, Barossa Valley – Koonunga Hill Vineyard. A totally trouble-free growing season enabled grapes to ripen perfectly. Vintage conditions were also ideal, enabling fruit to be harvested and processed without compromising quality in any way. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Shiraz. 20 months in new American oak hogsheads. pH 3.38, TA 7.2 g/l. Bottled January 1992 at Nuriootpa. 1,200 cases.
Seems more evolved. Very sweet and rich. Fresh finish. Velvety and long.
