With more than 500 years of history and the lion’s share of one of Burgundy’s most hallowed grand crus, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a cornerstone of Burgundian legend and a vinous dream for modern connoisseurs.

Certainly the greatest estate in Chambolle-Musigny if not in greater Burgundy, de Vogüé for 20 generations has been steward of the village’s top terroirs. The estate owns some 80 percent of grand cru Le Musigny, and a significant portion of grand cru Bonnes-Mares. Its premier cru Chambolle-Musigny is crafted exclusively from younger-vine fruit in Musigny and its Musigny Blanc is crafted from younger-vine Chardonnay grown also in Musigny.

The style of de Vogüé is the epitome of Chambolle—delicate aromas, refined yet profound flavors, a finish made of silk. These are wines that come into their own not ten years down the line but 30; a cellar without a selection of de Vogüé is a cellar missing the soul of Burgundy.

Tasting Notes

88-91 Points Allen Meadows
from <2 ha of vines in the upper southwest portion of the commune that includes some declassified 1ers from Les Baudes and Fuées A perfumed and nicely spicy nose blends notes of red berries, plum and a touch of violet. The sleek, intense and well-detailed middleweight flavors exude a discreet bead of minerality on the refreshing, moderately austere and sufficiently firm finale to warrant up to a decade of keeping. This very pretty effort will likely be approachable after only 5 or so years of keeping. *Burghound Outstanding! 91 Points John Gilman I did not realize this previously, but the fine Chambolle villages bottling at Comte de Vogüé includes the domaine’s production from their small parcels in the fine premier crus of les Fuées and les Baudes, which together, comprise about ten percent of the blend. The wine has turned out beautifully in 2021, offering up a bright and complex bouquet of red and black cherries, raw cocoa, chalky soil tones, a touch of mustard seed, woodsmoke and a discreet framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a good core, lovely balance and a long, soil-driven and bouncy finish that closes with moderate tannins and lovely grip. This is a superb AC! 2031-2075.
