Bass Phillip is recognized by many observers as the finest pinot noir producer in Australia.
Established in 1979 by Phillip Jones, Bass Phillip specialises in producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Driven by their respect for nature and biodynamic farming, grape growing and winemaking are uncompromising in their attention to detail and quality.
Low intervention in the vineyard and in the cellar permits the wines to show flavours and characteristics of the region – length, complexity, balanced acidity, lovely minerality, and with a certain polish and character that makes them truly extraordinary vintage after vintage.

While there are layers and layers of flavour within, there’s also a fine line of acidity keeping this not so much tight but reined in. There seems to be more detail and focus of late, even the colour is a glorious gleaming pale straw. Flavours of stone fruit, ginger spice, grapefruit and pith and fluffy creamy lees with cedary/spicy oak.
95 Points Huon Hooke
Light-to-mid yellow colour with a shy, reserved bouquet with wheaty savoury aromas plus stone-fruit and bread-crust that translate well to the palate, which is fresh and clean, lively and well-balanced. It will no doubt build more complexity with time. Mealy and lemony flavours linger and the finish is soft and harmonious. Fresher and more fruit-driven than the Premium. It’s a delicious drink now.
95 Points James Suckling
A concentrated and delicious chardonnay that greets you with hazelnut, apricot, fresh mango and pie crust aromas. Some salted caramel and white lavender. It’s full-bodied and intensely flavorful, but very fresh too, with sleek and caressing layers and a deliciously buttery, salty finish. Great length. Drink or hold.
