Jean-Marc Roulot has developed something of cult-like status for his wines, perhaps second only to those of Coche-Dury in the village of Meursault.  The reasons for this are quite simple: they are of excellent quality; they can be exceedingly difficult to obtain; and above all, they are absolutely compelling.

Drawing from a little less than nine hectares of vineyards, including four premier crus of painfully small sizes, the vineyards have all been organic for around 20 years, and in more recent times are gradually being converted to biodynamics.

Roulot’s wines are invariably very complex wines, whilst less rich than those of, say, Comte Lafon, they are still fully-flavoured and age superbly.

Tasting Notes

93-95 Points William Kelley (Wine Advocate)
The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères is excellent, exhibiting aromas of citrus oil and pear mingled with notes of fresh bread, dried white flowers and iodine. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it’s ample but precise, with a satiny attack that segues into a vibrant mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish. If Les Charmes is denser and blockier, the Clos des Bouchères is finer-boned and more ethereal.

94-96 Points Vinous
The 2020 Meursault Clos des Bouchères 1er Cru is positively stunning. The aromatics along are so inviting. Gracious and deceptively light in body, the 2020 has so much to offer. White pepper, crushed rocks, grapefruit, mint and salt lend brightness to this mesmerizing, high-toned Meursault. The Bouchères is one of the highlights in this range from Jean-Marc Roulot.

94-96 Points Jasper Morris
Picked on 21st August, 13.65% alcohol, 4.00TA and 3.28pH. Pale lemon yellow, the nose is interestingly complex, less reductive, with more soft fruit, a lovely lemon and grapefruit zest to it. Otherwise there is more classic white fruit, great energy and length. Really attractive, complex balanced wine with great length.
