2019 Domaine Dujac Echezeaux Grand Cru

$1,299.00

Jasper Morris MW quotes “Dujac wines are not necessarily the deepest in colour but are noted for their exceptional fragrance, structure and longevity. With seven grands crus in the stable, Dujac is today one of Burgundy’s leading domaines”.

Domaine Dujac in Burgundy was acquired by Jacques Seysses in 1967. The domaine in Morey-St-Denis had 4 hectares of vineyards and he has subsequently built it up to 11.5 hectares. Domaine Dujac now includes holdings in Clos de la Roche, Clos St-Denis, Bonnes-Mares, Echézeaux and Charmes-Chambertin . “Use knowledge and technology to counter accidents – for example, bad weather – but, if all is going well, don’t interfere,” says Seysses and this principle guides much of what happens in the vineyards and the cellars. Dujac wines are neither filtered nor fined and all of his premiers and grands crus are aged in 100% new oak. These are wines of the very highest order.

Description

96 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2019 Echezeaux Grand Cru showed especially well from barrel, and it has realized all that potential in bottle. Wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, cherries and plums mingled with exotic spices, peonies, blood orange and raw cocoa, it’s full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a broad attack and a deep, multidimensional core. Long and perfumed, it’s as fine a young Echézeaux as I can remember tasting chez Dujac.

92-94 Points Allen Meadows
Once again there are plenty of spice and floral influences adding breadth to the nose of purple fruit, exotic tea and hoisin. The succulent and almost delicate middle weight flavors possess a suave mid-palate mouthfeel before tightening up on the dusty, moderately austere and sneaky long finale. This is clearly capable of extended cellaring but it’s sufficiently supple that it should also be approachable after only 7 to 8 years.
