Large swathes of Burgundy’s Côte d’Or are owned by branches of the extended Colin familyn and in Chassagne-Montrachet, Bruno Colin is the name to watch.
Bruno inherited his vineyards when his father, Michel Colin-Deléger’s estate was divided between him and his brother, Philippe. His first vintage was 2004 and he has succeeded brilliantly in building up an impressive domaine of his own. He vinifies his wines in both his father’s beautiful old cellars in the centre of Chassagne-Montrachet, and now, a brand new cellar opposite the church. He owns 8.75 hectares of vineyards spread across Puligny-Montrachet, St-Aubin, Santenay and Dezize-les-Maranges. His finest assets are the quality of his eight premier cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Bruno’s success is attributed to his ability to reflect the uniqueness of each vineyard, and his skill in creating expressive and alluring wines.
90-93 Points Allen Meadows
An overtly floral suffused nose speaks of freshly sliced apple and pear along with hints of spice and oak. The almost painfully intense middle weight flavors terminate in a bracing bitter lemon suffused finish that is more refined than that of the Morgeot if not quite as complex.
