There is a plenitude of citrus influences suffusing the equally floral nose of various white fleshed fruit and mineral reduction aromas. There is impressive intensity to the chiseled medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a compact, linear and austere finale. This is potentially outstanding but note well that this will absolutely require at least half a dozen years of patience and reward a decade plus of it. *Outstanding*

Wafting from the glass with scents of pear, yellow apples, struck match and white flowers, the 2019 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes is medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with fine concentration and a saline finish. This cuvée derives from holdings toward the bottom of this large climat, which appear to have overperformed in this warm, dry year.

“This comes from the deeper, moisture-retaining, soils in the bottom of Les Charmes, which prompts Frédéric Weber to pick the grapes late, at the same time as the Bâtard-Montrachet, and to vinify with 50% new wood instead of the more typical 15-20%. Light lemon colour. Huge energy behind, excellent natural acidity, everything is concentrated here this year. Charmes is always a long term wine chez Bouchard.”
