Jean-Marc Roulot has developed something of cult-like status for his wines, perhaps second only to those of Coche-Dury in the village of Meursault. The reasons for this are quite simple: they are of excellent quality; they can be exceedingly difficult to obtain; and above all, they are absolutely compelling.
Drawing from a little less than nine hectares of vineyards, including four premier crus of painfully small sizes, the vineyards have all been organic for around 20 years, and in more recent times are gradually being converted to biodynamics.
Roulot’s wines are invariably very complex wines, whilst less rich than those of, say, Comte Lafon, they are still fully-flavoured and age superbly.
93-95 Points Allen Meadows
Outstanding, Exuberantly fresh and elegant aromas combine notes of acacia blossom rose petal white peach spiced pear and a whisper of just grated lemon zest. The strikingly fine middle weight flavors are almost delicate yet display excellent intensity on the focused and highly persistent finish that flashes superb complexity. As are all the best examples of Bouchères this is a wine of finesse with knockout length.
93-95 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères is also very charming this year wafting from the glass with aromas of pear white flowers clear honey almond paste and pastry cream. On the palate it’s medium to full-bodied textural but incisive with less flesh on its bones than the Charmes but a racier more dynamic spine of acidity concluding with a precise finish. This is another superlative Clos des Bouchères in the making.
