2018 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet ‘Clavoillon’ 1er Cru

$559.00

The roots of the Leflaive family go back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive took up residence in Puligny-Montrachet, intent upon cultivating several acres of vineyards. The domaine, in its present form, was created by Joseph Leflaive between the years of 1910 and 1930, as a result of his successive purchases of vineyards and houses.
Today, the domaine extends over 24 hectares (59.3 acres) in Puligny-Montrachet, of which 4.8 hectares (11.9 acres) are grands crus and 10.8 hectares (26.7 acres) are premiers crus, all growing one varietal: Chardonnay. Since 2004 the domaine has expanded into the Mâconnais and cultivates some 20 hectares 49.4 acres) in Mâcon-Verzé and Solutré-Pouilly.

Description

90-93 Points Allen Meadows
An attractively layered nose combines lovely floral notes with those of citrus peel, pear and soft spice hints. The racy and tension-filled medium weight flavors possess excellent detail on the palate coating finish that is at once clean, dry and, minerally and youthfully austere. I would further observe that this is a wine that has made considerable progress over the last 10 years, and the 2018 is only the latest confirmation of that progress. In short, this is really quite promising.

90-92 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Aromas of fresh peach, white flowers, citrus oil and green apples preface the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon, a medium to full-bodied, elegantly satiny wine that’s racy and fine-boned, with lively acids, a delicate core of fruit and a chalky finish. This has none of the blockiness of yesteryear’s Clavoillon.
