Jean-Marc Roulot has developed something of cult-like status for his wines, perhaps second only to those of Coche-Dury in the village of Meursault. The reasons for this are quite simple: they are of excellent quality; they can be exceedingly difficult to obtain; and above all, they are absolutely compelling.
Drawing from a little less than nine hectares of vineyards, including four premier crus of painfully small sizes, the vineyards have all been organic for around 20 years, and in more recent times are gradually being converted to biodynamics.
Roulot’s wines are invariably very complex wines, whilst less rich than those of, say, Comte Lafon, they are still fully-flavoured and age superbly.

There is a whiff of the exotic to the white peach, lychee, passion fruit and attractively floral-suffused nose. As is usually the case, there is outstanding volume and richness to the sappy and overtly powerful larger-scaled flavors that offer better depth though not the same refinement on the comparably long and equally well-structured finish. *Outstanding*

Expressive aromas of Anjou pear, citrus oil and fresh peach introduce the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Porusot, a medium to full-bodied, crisply fleshy wine with a bright spine of acidity, chewy structuring extract and a long, chalky finish. This was a late developer in the cellar during its élevage, but now it’s quite open and expressive.

Currently this comes just from Porusot-Dessous, the plot in Le Porusot being replanted. Pale colour with light green tints, the bouquet is hiding for the moment, but the wine is fabulous on the palate with a driven white fruit intensity and a mineral tingle at the finish.
