Jean-Marc Roulot has developed something of cult-like status for his wines, perhaps second only to those of Coche-Dury in the village of Meursault. The reasons for this are quite simple: they are of excellent quality; they can be exceedingly difficult to obtain; and above all, they are absolutely compelling.
Drawing from a little less than nine hectares of vineyards, including four premier crus of painfully small sizes, the vineyards have all been organic for around 20 years, and in more recent times are gradually being converted to biodynamics.
Roulot’s wines are invariably very complex wines, whilst less rich than those of, say, Comte Lafon, they are still fully-flavoured and age superbly.
96 Points Allen Meadows
This is at once the most elegant and the most complex wine in the range with its ripe, pure and airy aromas of white flower, wet stone, spice and lemon/lime nuances where, in textbook Perrières fashion, the minerality also permeates the textured, concentrated and refined medium-bodied flavors that possess incredible precision on the almost painful and hugely long finish. Roulot makes the most understated version of Perrières among the top guns and this is destined to be a classic. Or, more prosaically stated, this is a genuine ‘wow’ wine.
95+ Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is firmly shut down, offering up only a reticent bouquet of iodine, toasted nuts and citrus oil. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, tangy and bright but decidedly taut, playing its cards very close to its vest. From barrel, this was the most intense and concentrated wine in Roulot’s cellar, with immense potential, but given how closed the wine is today, there is really no point pulling corks for a good five years. 2023 – 2040
