Dalwhinnie is located near the small village of Moonambel in the heart of the Pyrenees region of Western Victoria, Australia and is a super premium producer of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. After 40 years of growing grapes, the 16 hectare vineyard is now fully mature, producing true varietal fruit characters with great concentration of flavours.
At 595 metres above sea-level Dalwhinnie is the highest and most remote of the Pyrenees district vineyards. Surrounded and sheltered by the highest range, this unique bowl of vines is a world unto itself, located in a naturally undulating trough which falls away from the hills, forming an amphitheatre nestled into the ranges.
The fruit for the Eagle Series has been sourced from the small 1.2 hectare cellar door vineyard planted in 1977. The hilly, well drained soils and south easterly aspect produces some of the most stylish and complex fruit in the country. The fruit character is unique in that it displays a very interesting olive oil and bramble fruit characteristic, which is fascinating.
Magnificent colour saturation displaying an impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. The nose has a restrained intensity that will fully blossom in years to come. Lifted scents of liquorice and ripe blackberries dominate with dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spice also present. Rich and opulent on entry, yet compact and inky on the finish, very concentrated flavours of liquorice, ripe blackberries and dark plums saturate the palate with underlying vanillin oak, subtle inky earth like characters and spice. Tight, chewy mouthfeel with dry chalky tannins providing a rock like structure and the perfect foil to the intensity of fruit. Impressive length with a long ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum, spicy vanillin oak and subtle inky earth aftertaste.
