2012 Domaine François Raveneau Chablis ‘Butteaux’ 1er Cru

$429.00

Not only does the Raveneau family own many of the finest sites in the appellation, but their wines have a steely magnificence that captures the essence of Chablis’ distinctive terroir. The greatness of Raveneau’s Chablis has even led some to suggest they deserve an appellation of their own.
Raveneau wines are famous for their longevity. In fact, many believe that a top Raveneau Chablis doesn’t hit its stride until it’s at least 8 to 10 years old. At this time, the wines not only acquire even greater richness, but layer upon layer of previously hidden flavors are revealed.
Along with René and Vincent Dauvissat, Raveneau pioneered the use of Côte d’Or winemaking in Chablis, including barrel fermentation and extended lees contact.

Description

93 Points Allen Meadows
The expressive nose offers up notes of petrol, flowers, pear, citrus and wet stone, all of which is trimmed in just enough wood to notice. There is excellent volume to the impressively rich and powerful medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract on the focused, mouth coating and wonderfully persistent finish. 2012 is a robust vintage for this excellent wine that should repay up to a decade of bottle age.

93 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2012 Chablis 1er Cru Les Butteaux has a strict, slightly reserved bouquet that does not want to come out to play today. The palate is crisp and precise, nicely balanced, very harmonious and yet does not quite match the precocity of the 2013 on the finish. Seek this out if you want a more understated Chablis from Raveneau.
