2011 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet ‘Clavoillon’ 1er Cru

$510.00

The roots of the Leflaive family go back to 1717 when Claude Leflaive took up residence in Puligny-Montrachet, intent upon cultivating several acres of vineyards. The domaine, in its present form, was created by Joseph Leflaive between the years of 1910 and 1930, as a result of his successive purchases of vineyards and houses.
Today, the domaine extends over 24 hectares (59.3 acres) in Puligny-Montrachet, of which 4.8 hectares (11.9 acres) are grands crus and 10.8 hectares (26.7 acres) are premiers crus, all growing one varietal: Chardonnay. Since 2004 the domaine has expanded into the Mâconnais and cultivates some 20 hectares 49.4 acres) in Mâcon-Verzé and Solutré-Pouilly.

Description

91 Points Allen Meadows
A markedly floral and distinctly riper nose displays notes of white peach, apricot and pain grillé trimmed in pretty citrus notes. There is good concentration to the sappy and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors where there is a real sense of volume and dry extract. The 2011 version is a relatively powerful wine and is really quite good.

93 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon 2011 from Anne-Claude Laflaive has convincing pedigree on the nose: fine minerality here and impressive delineation, touches of slate unfurling in the glass. The palate has a slightly honeyed entry and it is more exotic than the nose suggests with hints of orange rind and sour lemon dovetailing into lively chalky textured finish. This has great potential, so I would cellar for 2 or 3 years if you can resist.
