2010 Domaine Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Champeaux’ 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes

$410.00

Dugat-Py is a high-class Gevrey-Chambertin Domaine that has risen to prominence in the last 10 years. It was run for many years by Pierre Dugat and, astonishingly, only began estate bottling in 1989. It is now run by Pierre’s son Bernard, who is recognised as one of the shrewdest winemakers on the Côte.
The Domaine consists of 5 hectares of vineyards and includes holdings in several Premiers Crus sites and 3 Grands Crus.
The key to the success is in the vineyard with exceptionally meticulous control of the work, there being five people working full time on 10 hectares.
The vines are for the most part extremely old, averaging 65 years old across the domaine. Replanting is done with selections from their own vine stock, never with clones.
The domaine has been fully organic since 2003. The wines are vinified with as little intervention as possible and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The wines are very approachable in youth but show at their best with 5-8 years of bottle ageing.

Description

95 Points Allen Meadows
This is almost like a hypothetical combination of the Gevrey “1er” and the Petite Chapelle with a ripe and admirably pure nose of cassis, spiced plum, wet stone and pungent earth aromas. There is genuinely brilliant complexity to the exceptionally rich and equally stony broad-shouldered flavors that possess perhaps a bit more refinement than usual on the strikingly persistent finish. This is a stunner of a Champeaux in a vintage that produced any number of them

94 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux is a more structured, tannic wine than the Petite Chappelle. The fruit tends towards the redder end of the spectrum, but ultimately the Champeaux is more about minerality and sheer length. This is a 2010 with firm, imposing tannins that is going to require quite a bit of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035.

70% whole bunch. 100% new oak. Very dark crimson. Very fine and firm and scented. Extremely vigorous and fresh. Very lively black fruits. Lovely pure stuff. Minerals and very gouleyant. Great balance and persistence. Really exciting. Very long and fine.
