Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. The Calvet family sold the company to focus on their large, expanding negociant firm in Bordeaux.
Polydore Chapoutier was the first of the Chapoutier family to head the company, and the only head of the firm not to have a name that started with the letter M. That tradition began with the next generation, started by Marius Chapoutier.

Today, Chapoutier is a massive negociant and winery located in the Rhone valley their offices are situated in the small community of Tain Hermitage. Chapoutier is both a negociant and winemaker.
They are active all over the Rhone valley in every major appellation. Chapoutier makes great wine at every price level, from very expensive wines at the top end, to value wines from Cotes du Rhone.

Tasting Notes

96 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
The 2009 Cote Rotie La Mordoree (471 cases) is potentially the finest La Mordoree made since the monumental 1991 (which is just beginning to hit full maturity at age 20). Spring flower, black olive, smoky barbecued meat, creme de cassis, graphite and black cherry characteristics are all found in this complex, aromatic effort. With an unctuous texture and a full-bodied mouthfeel, this is a gorgeous example of Cote Rotie Syrah that should drink nicely for 20-25+ years.

97 Points Wine Spectator
Bass notes of roasted mesquite and ganache support the fig and currant core, with lots of singed bay leaf, charcoal and espresso to fill in on the finish, where a black tea note echoes in the background. Shows serious muscle, but riveting acidity keeps it all harnessed. Needs a little time to settle in, but will be worth the wait for its terrific length and range. Best from 2015 through 2030.
