2008 Domaine François Raveneau Chablis ‘Chapelot’ 1er Cru

$429.00

Not only does the Raveneau family own many of the finest sites in the appellation, but their wines have a steely magnificence that captures the essence of Chablis’ distinctive terroir. The greatness of Raveneau’s Chablis has even led some to suggest they deserve an appellation of their own.
Raveneau wines are famous for their longevity. In fact, many believe that a top Raveneau Chablis doesn’t hit its stride until it’s at least 8 to 10 years old. At this time, the wines not only acquire even greater richness, but layer upon layer of previously hidden flavors are revealed.
Along with René and Vincent Dauvissat, Raveneau pioneered the use of Côte d’Or winemaking in Chablis, including barrel fermentation and extended lees contact.

Description

92 Points Allen Meadows
An exceptionally fresh and ever-so-mildly tropical nose offers plenty of classic Chablis character that includes sea breeze and oyster shell notes. There is good richness and verve to the nicely rich and solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess good detail and really lovely depth on the focused, long and delicious finish.

93-94 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Iris, ginseng, and fresh lime on the nose of Raveneau’s 2008 Chablis Chapelot set the tone for a metaphorically cool, refined palate performance. Subtly creamy, yet refreshingly juicy and saliva-inducing; discreetly but endlessly fascinating, this remarkably buoyant, wafting wine strikes me as unusually ineffable – and besides, I just want to drink it!
