2007 Dominus

$980.00

Dominus is now entirely owned by Christian Moueix (of Château Pétrus fame) and produces one of the finest Bordeaux style wines in California.

The fruit is sourced largely from the famed Napanook Vineyard located at Yountville in the Napa Valley. Some of the vines at Napanook are over 100 years old and it was one of the 3 vineyards from which the great vintages of Inglenook were produced. Dominus is a Bordeaux- style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

It is aged in one-third new oak barrels for 15 months. After a shaky start, Dominus is now a serious rival to Opus One and in recent years has arguably been the superior wine.

Description

99 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Deep garnet in color with a touch of purple, the 2007 Proprietary Red Wine flaunts wonderfully expressive, vibrant blackberries and black cherries scents to begin, giving way to black raspberries and redcurrants with touches of Indian spices, potpourri, chargrill, sage, espresso, unsmoked cigars and tilled soil plus a waft of cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the elegantly styled palate offers tantalizing restraint with a firm frame of very fine, pixelated tannins and compelling freshness, finishing very long with an invigorating lift. Although this wine will handsomely reward a further 5-7 years in cellar, it can offer a lot of pleasure now but will need a couple of hours of decanting.

97 Points Decanter
This mature wine remains dark black-red in colour. Dark chocolate, roast meat and forest resins haunt the blackberry and plum fruits, but it’s surprisingly vital too, with ringing, resonant, ripe acidity in orbit with the flesh, soft textures and overall amplitude. Pure Napa class.
