Guigal is the most famous produer in Côte Rôtie and one of the finest in the Rhône Valley. It was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, following his departure from Vidal-Fleury, where he had worked for just under twenty years. His son, Marcel, joined the company in 1961 and is now the head of the company.

Guigal pioneered the notion of single vineyard Côte Rôties and his 3 most famous wines, La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque are amongst the most sought after wines in the world today.

Marcel Guigal’s attitude to winemaking is typical of the simple genius that one seems to stumble upon when looking at any of the world’s greatest winemakers – low yields, organic viticulture and little or no intervention in the cellars – in short, a respect for nature and a passion for the wine itself.

Tasting Notes

97 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Masculine and burly, the 2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque is an absolutely stunning effort that delivers explosive aromas of rusted iron, blood, and crushed rock that are supported by smoky, meaty dark fruits. Ripe and concentrated on the palate, with full bodied power and depth, perfect balance, and huge underlying structure and tannin the comes through on the finish, this is actually approachable now given the level of fruit and texture; however, this needs 8-10 years bottle age, and should drink well for decades!

94+ Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Possessing more acidity and obvious structure than the 2007, the 2006 Cote Rotie La Turque offers ample notes of charred meats, blackcurrants, cassis, saddle leather and spice. Still inky purple in color, with a straight, focused, lengthy style, give this full-bodied beauty another 2-3 years of cellaring and enjoy over the following two decades or more.
