2006 Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Chatelots’ 1er Cru

$530.00

Ghislaine Barthod’s domaine originated in the 1920s with Marcel Noëllat, whose daughter married Gaston Barthod – a soldier stationed in Dijon who came to buy some wine and got the girl as well. He gave up military life for the vineyards in ’60.

His daughter, Ghislaine, and her partner, Louis Boillot, bought their current premises overlooking Premier Cru Les Feusselottes in ’86. Though they share the team who work the vineyards, the vinification and commercial aspects of their businesses are kept separate.

The domaine has an incomparable range of Chambolle-Musigny terroirs, with 11 separate Premier Cru bottlings and highly regarded Bourgogne and village wines.

Description

88-91 Points Allen Meadows
Here the nose is slightly more elegant and certainly finer with an equally high-toned red berry and cherry fruit-infused nose that complements the supple and round yet detailed, indeed almost delicate flavors that coat the mouth on the lacy and pure finish. This is not overly complex or concentrated but the mouth feel is striking.

90+ Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Barthod’s 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelots – last tasted from a sample of barrels – leads with fresh red raspberry, wreathed in subtle, hard-to-identify floral perfume. Flatteringly refined in texture and generously juicy, it combines meat broth, chalk, and salt undertones for another truly lip-smacking performance, finishing with transparency and lift. Even a sample from new barrel was uniformly and lusciously fruit and mineral dominated, although Barthod indicated that this cru was late to digest its wood.
