Deep garnet-black in color, the 1999 Descendent shows intensely earthy and meaty aromas accented by notes of charcoal, smoked meat, dark cherry compote, some menthol and anise. Full-bodied and rich, more so in the mouth than on the nose, it is structured by firm, grainy tannins and crisp acid. The finish gives long, layered and concentrated savory notes with hints of licorice and fennel seed.
