2022 Domaine des Courcel Release

Domaine de Courcel is a historic name in Burgundy and its portfolio of vineyards is enviable, Domaine de Courcel along with Marquis de Angerville and Comte Armand represent the very top of the Pinot Noir tree in the Côte de Beaune.

Nestled in the heart of Pommard in the prestigious Côte d’Or, Domaine de Courcel is a remarkable, family-owned estate with over 400 years of heritage. The domaine’s portfolio is anchored by some of Pommard’s most revered Premier Cru vineyards, including Le Grand Clos des Épenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers, and Les Croix Noires—sites that consistently produce wines of depth, structure, and distinction. A seamless balance of tradition, precision, and modern expertise defines every bottle.

With just 22 acres under vine, production is exceptionally limited. At the heart of the estate lies its crown jewel: the monopole Premier Cru, Grand Clos des Épenots. This north-facing vineyard, planted with vines over 60 years old, sits on classic clay-limestone soils strewn with ancient stone. The result is a wine of extraordinary complexity—widely regarded as one of the most profound expressions of Pommard.

Domaine de Courcel remains something of a hidden gem. Revered by collectors and connoisseurs, yet rarely seen on the open market, these wines are swiftly secured by those who value the finest expressions of Pinot Noir.

I originally approached James and his team to look into finding a special bottle of wine for me, that I had not been able to get my hands on through the usual auctions or retail sites. James successfully managed to source the wine for me and since then I have been taking advantage of the new release offers James provides to his clients. Highly recommend!

Having collected wines for over 30 years, I consider myself to be fairly accurate in what pricing should be on the wines that I am interested in purchasing. I was pleasantly surprised that The Envied Cellar is regularly one of the most competitively priced sites for the rare and fine wine market. It’s reassuring and refreshing to deal with someone who takes such pride in knowing his product.

From day one, whenever I have contacted James, he has made himself available to me and answered all of my questions and met all of my requests. It’s been nice to build rapport with someone who has learnt my likes and dislikes so well that now I just tell him to send me what he knows I will like. James and his team make it so simple to access good wine, great work guys. Cheers!
