Exploring the Legacy of Vosne-Romanée

Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. 

The domaine, takes its name from two connected families. Etienne Camuzet was deputé for the Côte d’Or from 1902 to 1932. He purchased some significant vineyard holdings as well as the Château de Clos de Vougeot, which he later gave to the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. His vineyard holdings passed to a daughter, Maria Noirot, who died childless, and thence in 1959 to a more distant relative, Jean Méo. At this stage the vineyards were looked after by sharecroppers, notably Henri Jayer, and the wine sold off in bulk. Domaine bottling only began in 1985 and reached full throttle with the arrival of Jean Nicolas Méo to take charge in 1989.

I originally approached James and his team to look into finding a special bottle of wine for me, that I had not been able to get my hands on through the usual auctions or retail sites.
